Project background
This project:
- Maintained the parking lane on the west side of Valley Avenue from 6th Street NW to Walker Avenue NW and removed the east side parking lane.
- Upgraded sidewalks and curb ramps to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
- Installed curb extensions at intersections to shorten the pedestrian crossings, make room for rain gardens, and better define parking spaces.
- Placed new water main and replaced 35 lead water services with new copper water services into properties.
- Made minor improvements to the storm sewer system, which handles storm water. Stormwater is rainwater or water from melting snow or ice. The stormwater system includes catch basins (the grates found periodically along curbs) that collect the water from the street and carry it into a main line.
- Planted 35 new street trees.
