Project background

New street design:

Godfrey Avenue from Hall Street to Oxford Street

 

Godfrey Avenue (Liberty St to Hall St)

 

The project:

  • Separated a combined sewer into dedicated sanitary and storm sewers.
  • Replaced the water main and lead water service lines.

On Godfrey Avenue from Hall Street to Oxford Street:

  • Narrowed the street from 42 feet wide to 30 feet wide.
  • Maintained the parking lane on the west side of the street and remove the east side parking lane.
  • Install a 5-foot wide sidewalk for pedestrians next to a two-way bikeway on the east side of the street.    
  • Installed bulb-outs at some intersections to shorten the street crossing width for people walking, slow traffic speeds, and better define parking lanes.
  • Installed sidewalk and curb ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act on the west side of the street.
  • Planted new street trees.

On Godfrey Avenue from the south city limits to Hall Street:

  • Narrowed the street from approximately 40 feet wide to 32 feet wide to increase the amount of greenspace.
  • Installed bicycle lanes on both sides of the street, one in each direction.
  • Installed sidewalk and curb ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act on the both sides of the street.
  • Planted new street trees.
