Irwin Creek Greenway: Statesville Road to Allen Hills Park
Irwin Creek Greenway: Statesville Road to Allen Hills Park
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation will be adding to its greenway system by completing a ~ 2-mile linear green space called Irwin Creek Greenway. This greenway is in the North Park Region and will provide non-vehicular access and connectivity to about 400 acres of recreation and neighborhood amenities. Irwin Creek Greenway is uniquely backdropped by the “nature integrity” of RibbonWalk Nature Preserve and bookended by Nevin Park at Statesville Road and Allen Hills Park at Cheviot Road. This greenway project will provide opportunities for prescribed play for diverse user groups with different levels of mobility. Residents near and far frequent Nevin Community Neighborhood to partake in passive and active recreation like disc golf, regulation sports, play and spray grounds, hiking/walking, and picnicking. On a larger scale, this greenway will be part of the Carolina Thread Trail and The Seam, a contiguous regional north-south trail, that will span 50 mile connecting from Statesville, NC to the South Carolina Stateline.
