Albemarle Road Park
Albemarle Road Park
Albemarle Road Park is a neighborhood park in the South Park Region of Mecklenburg County. The entrance to Albemarle Road Park is off of W.T. Harris Blvd just south of Albemarle Road. Albemarle Road Park is approximately 21 acres of predominately wooded land with walking trails that is surrounded by Albemarle Road Elementary School, Albemarle Road Middle School and the Albemarle Road Recreation Center. Albemarle Road Park and the Albemarle Road Recreation Center are divided by a major road, W.T. Harris Blvd. The Albemarle Road Recreation Center features a full size gymnasium, multipurpose rooms, a kitchen, a meeting room, a nature trail, a multipurpose field and a playground.
Mecklenburg County is working to make improvements to Albemarle Road Park. The Albemarle Road Park Project is for the master planing, designing and rebuilding of the park. The master planning process aimed to identify community needs, wants, desires for the park; identify users interested in enjoying the park, develop a plan for implementation that would improve perception, safety, access, visibility and usability of the park. On Saturday, November 14, 2020, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation conducted a virtual public meeting to seek community input to help define the master plan. The Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners allocated $7 million to the improvement of existing local parks in an effort to improve equity. Albemarle Road Park is one of the ten parks selected to receive this funding.

- 4/2023: Mecklenburg County has been working hard to make improvements to Albemarle Road Park. This Park Improvements Project involves the master plan, design and redevelopment of the park. The original project budget allocated for this project was only for the Master Plan and the development of phase 1 (projected to include some trails and a community garden). Thankfully, in an effort to improve park equity, the Board of County Commissioners allocated additional funds in FY2022 to this project allowing the project to evolved to include the development of most of the amenities in the master plan. Over the past couple of years, the project team has completed the Master Plan, a Public Meeting, the site survey, some invasive species removal, overall park preliminary schematics and cost estimates, playground planning, design concepts studies and reviews, permitting pre-submittal meeting and the site plan. Over the next 4-7 months, the design team will be finalizing the design and applying for the necessary permits to rebuild the park.
